                                                           Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Why do you use steam cleaning over other dry methods?

A:  Steam cleaning or hot water extraction, if done properly is the best method to deep clean dirty carpet.  We pre-spray all carpet with a chemical that fits the needs of your type of carpet then steam, clean, and rinse all the chemicals and dirt, which goes into a waste tank in our van, leaving no residue or re-soiling of your carpet.

Q:  How long does it take for carpets to dry?

A:  This depends on numerous things such as:

  1. Thickness of carpet (thicker=more time, thinner=less time)
  2. After the cleaning, keep the house cooler than normal because after we clean the carpet the temperature will rise in the house due to the steam and humidity created.  Keeping the building cooler helps reduce this humidity and speeds up the drying process and makes the home more comfortable for the occupants.
  3. How dirty the carpet is, how many times we have to pass over areas.  More passes require more water and will take longer to dry.
  4. Most thin lightweight carpets dry in roughly 3-4 hours.  Thicker, heavier carpets may take as long as 12 hours to dry properly.
  5. As a precaution, it is best to keep any furniture that was moved off the carpet for 24 hours.  This helps prevent rust on metal furniture legs or bleeding varnish from wooden furniture if the carpet has not yet dried completely.

Q:  How many times a year should I have my carpets cleaned?

A:  Most carpet warranties say to have your carpets professionally steam cleaned at least once a year.  This may vary depending on how heavy foot traffic is, pets in the home, and how many people are in the home.  A good rule of thumb is about twice a year.  JT's offers scheduled reminders for the homeowner that would like us to remind them when it is time for periodic maintenance of their home's carpets, furniture, or air ducts.

Q:  I get a lot of coupons in the mail advertising $9.95 a room, or even cheaper.  Why shouldn't I use them?

A:  These companies put a lot of pressure on their employees to create add on sales.  They also charge extra fees for everything from pre-spraying the carpets (included in our service) to other things we feel should be included in the service like raking out the carpets to provide you with the best quality clean for your home.  While our company does charge extra for things like Kool-Aid removal or to rescue severely damaged carpet, we are up front about our pricing.  Our quotes for carpet cleaning all include pre-spraying, vacuuming, steaming, and extracting the carpets in general.  Any carpet repairs your home requires can be performed for an additional charge to our basic service quote.

Q:  When you arrive at my home or property, will I know what the end result will look like?

A:  Yes, when we arrive at the job we will quickly observe the areas to be cleaned and offer our opinion based on experience on which stains will come out, and which ones may be set in too far to be removed 100%  We can often save carpets that have been badly stained, but we will inform you when we see stains that are likely permanent.  In some cases, we are able to use the tools and chemicals at our disposal to make even permanent stains lighter and less noticeable.  In other cases we manage to get out stains other carpet cleaners claimed were permanent.
